In the style of<em> March Madness, <\/em>the culinary battle started on March 1st with a line-up\u00a0of 64 chefs who developed avocado-inspired recipes through a possible six rounds of competition. Each week half made it through to the next round until there were only four remaining. From those finalists, two were selected\u00a0to travel to San Diego for a live competition where they created an avocado-inspired menu\u00a0in front of the city\u2019s best chefs and culinary press for a chance to win some amazing prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The final match took place April 6th between <a href=\"https:\/\/chefsroll.com\/chef-profile?crurl=DorianSouthall\">Chef Dorian Southall<\/a> and San Diego&#8217;s own <a href=\"https:\/\/chefsroll.com\/chef-profile?crurl=RicardoHeredia\">Chef Ricardo Heredia<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/kitchen4140.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kitchen 4140<\/a>. The celebrity-studded judges panel included our fishmonger Tommy Gomes; <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.foodnetwork.com\/fn-dish\/2015\/08\/get-to-know-guys-grocery-games-judge-troy-johnson\/\">Troy Johnson<\/a>, food writer, and host, writer and judge for Food Network; Katherine Humphus of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savorymadesimple.com\/\">Kats\u00a0Kitchen\u00a0Collective<\/a>, and renowned Cali-Baja chef, <a href=\"http:\/\/chefjavierplascencia.mx\/en\/home-3\">Javier Plascencia<\/a> of <a title=\"Bracero Cocina\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BraceroCocina\">Bracero Cocina<\/a> and other notable restaurants in Mexico and Southern California. At stake was $10,000 cash, a professional knife set from Gunter Wilhelm Cutlery, as well as a golden ticket to the World Food Championships\u00a0for the chance to win $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>The head-to-head avocado-inspired menu included an appetizer course featuring our <a href=\"http:\/\/store.catalinaop.com\/products\/baja-farmed-sushi-grade-yellowtail-fillet-hiramasa?utm_source=blast%20ads&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=hiramasa_04_20_2016\">Baja Seas Hiramasa<\/a>, a sustainable farm-raised sushi-grade yellowtail from Baja California.\u00a0In a very tight race, Ricardo Heredia was crowned both \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d and overall champion of Avocado Madness and Chef\u2019s Plate 3.
